Nepal struggles to end political crisis

With only hours to go for the term of the Nepalese Constituent Assembly to end, senior leaders of the UCPN ( maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are holding crucial meeting to break the deadlock. The meeting is taking place in the Assembly premises , in Kathmandu.

Earlier the three parties held meetings independently to discuss the deadlock. Meetings were held with other smaller parties as well. The opposition Nepali Congress has been demanding the handover the keys of the weapon containers to the government but Maoists are opposing it.

The Assembly is still to meet to take the bill for extension of the Constituent Assembly which the Ruling coalition government has registered a bill . The government does not have the two third majority in the 601 member house .

Meanwhile Constituent Assembly Chairman Subash Chandra Nemwang said , that the lack of coordination between the peace and the statute drafting processes has led to the political impasse at present. Speaking at a programme , in Kathmandu , Nemwang said that there is no alternative to the Constituent Assembly and underlined the need of consensus among the political parties to pilot the ongoing processes to a logical end.
