The Rs.1,840 crore-Kuttanad Package now has an official website. The package, the implementation of which was launched in September last year, has been the cynosure of all eyes, particularly in the Kuttanad region and has been a topic of debate over the manner in which the implementation was progressing. Now, aiming at doing away with the “baseless rumours” that were floating over the alleged “sluggish” pace of progress, authorities have decided to make affairs transparent through the website.
According to the package’s project director Justin Mohan, the website, www.kuttanadpackage.in, contains everything that one needs to know about the package.Starting from the full report of the M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation that led to the formulation of the package, the projects that are under implementation, the funding schemes for each project and the committees that monitor the progress of the package, the webpage has it all.
There is a special link to the Kuttanad Package’s “cousin” as well, the Idukki Package, on the home page. Apart from this, there are separate links to the status report, progress report, project proposals and so on.Tenders, government orders and minutes of meetings related to the Kuttanad Package can be downloaded as well from the site.
Interestingly, along with general information on the Kuttanad region, the website also displays information on the latest happenings in the area, which include crucial telephone numbers for farmers to contact in case they require combine harvester machines, which are in shortage in the ongoing ‘puncha’ harvest season.
Contact details of officials in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Thrissur to make these machines available are given on the site, which can be viewed both in English and Malayalam.
The response has been good, says Mr. Mohan, pointing out that the site, in a little over than two weeks after it became fully functional, has had over 10,000 hits.
