Russia to accelerate GLONASS navigation satellite launches


Russia will accelerate the pace of communications satellite launches to give its GLONASS navigation system full global coverage capacity by the end of the year, a senior government official said Wednesday.Russia’s national space agency is planning to place into orbit six new GLONASS navigation satellites by the end of 2011, said Anatoly Shilov, a spokesman for Russia’s National Space Agency.GLONASS is a Russia-developed satellite-navigation system similar to the U.S.-developed GPS.

Google launches tools to help Indian businesses go global


Search engine giant Google today announced the launch of its new tool ‘Global Market Finder’ in India, which will help advertisers find new markets overseas for their products.“The new tool is designed to help Indian businesses expand their business and reach out to potential customers in international markets,” Sridhar Seshadri, Head Online Sales, Google India, told media persons here.

Sonia launches free delivery scheme of Health Min


A national initiative guaranteeing free delivery, free medicines and diet for pregnant women in government health institutes was unveiled by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Mewat on Wednesday.The Programme, Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram, has launched at a function at Al-Afia hospital in Mandi Kheda village of Nooh block in Mewat district of Haryana.In an effort to tackle maternal mortality, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is starting the scheme.

PM Reviews India’s Disaster Preparedness in the Wake of Recent Disaster in Japan


Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today reviewed the disaster preparedness in the country in the wake of recent disasters in Japan. As Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Prime Minister reviewed the safety measures being undertaken by Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) in respect of the nuclear facilities in the country and directed DAE and AERB to upgrade the safety measures in the light of the Fukushima experience and look at Beyond Design Basis Accident. 

Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of SMEs through Incubators

Recognizing the importance of micro and small enterprises, which constitute an important segment of Indian economy in terms of their contribution to country’s industrial production, exports, employment and creation of entrepreneurial base, the Central and state Governments have been implementing several schemes and programmesfor promotion and development of these enterprises. Among the six basic principles of governance underlying the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP) of the Government, “sustained economic growth in a manner that generates employment” has a pride place. The NCMP also describes the MSEs as “the most employment-intensive segment”.This component-scheme of the NMCP envisages selection of a large number of academic and training institutes and provision of financial support to set up at least 100 business incubators to host about 1,000 micro and small enterprises.

Forests : Nature at Your Service


Forest means an extensive area so well covered with trees that they serve to modify the whole biological character of the area even the climate. If the tree cover is too irregular and open to do this, the area is popularly called a woodland; if the trees are planted mainly for their fruit - an orchard, or, if the area is small and open - a grove. A concept was developed of the forest as a resource yielding useful products - chiefly lumber  -rather than essentially a land needing to be cleared of useless trees in order to develop agriculture or range use.
