India key hub for global sourcing in financial services BPOs


Global Business Process Outsourcing in the financial services sector has the potential to reach a market size of USD 250 billion, with India playing a key role, says a study by global consulting and research firm Everest Group.

Connecting Rural Roads

The Ministry of Rural Development has released grant in aid for Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh  for construction of rural roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).The sum is from the special window created in NABARD(National Bank for Agriculture& Rural Development) under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) as grants in aid to the respective Rural Road Development Agency (RRDA). RRDA is the agencies executing the works taken up under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in the state.

Anand Sharma Calls on Sheikh Hasina, Abandoned Rail Lines to be Restored

The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Anand Sharma called on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Smt Sheikh Hasina at Dhaka today. The Bangladesh Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the visit of the Indian Minister and called the Indian decisions ‘timely’. She said that measures announced during the visit show India’s firm commitment towards fulfilling the provisions of India-Bangladesh Joint Statement, January 2010.

Black money cause of price rise: Swamy


PATNA: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Sunday said black money was responsible for inflation and price rise in the country, with black-marketers using ill-gotten wealth to hoard essential commodities. “Black money is being used in a big way to purchase consumer goods, including food grains. These are hoarded to cause artificial shortage,” he said in his lecture on ‘Ramrajya Kal Aur Aaj’ here. Dr. Swamy claimed that those hoarding black money had invested up to 70 per cent of their capital in consumer goods and were using the profits to buy food materials for black marketing. This had led, he said, to the unusually high inflation rate of about 16 per cent, which was negating India’s 9 per cent growth.

Divergent views on bringing Prime Minister under Lok Pal Bill


A consultation here on Sunday threw up differences on bringing the Prime Minister under the ambit of the Lokpal Bill, being formulated by a 10-member joint drafting committee that includes five members from civil society. The round table, dominated by eminent judges and lawyers, however, excused higher judiciary from the ambit of the proposed Bill and favoured a “separate mechanism” to make High Court and Supreme Court judges accountable for misconduct.
