India announces USD 180 mn new line of credit for Tanzania

India has announced a new line of credit of USD 180 mn for Tanzania and signed a pact on avoidance of double taxation as the two countries agreed to intensify cooperation to combat terrorism and piracy and work closely for comprehensive UN reforms.On a three-day visit in Tanzania, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said after wide-ranging discussions with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete that the new line of credit will be for water supply projects in country's capital Dar es Salaam.

The external affiars sources said in New Delhi that in post-Osama scenario, there is an ardent need to bring together international community on terror related issues in the region.India has made it clear that it is committed to the traditional friendship with Afghanistan.

Pawan Bansal Leads Indian Delegation at the 1st India-Korea Science and Technology Ministerial Steering Committee Meeting; Calls for Greater Cooperation in S&T Between the Two Countries

The Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Science &Technology and Earth Sciences, Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal is on an official visit to the Republic of Korea on the invitation of Minister of Education and Science & Technology of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Ju-Ho Lee. During the visit, the two Ministers led their respective delegations for the 1st India-Korea Science & Technology Ministerial Steering Committee Meeting. They exchanged views on the recent S&T policy trends and recognized the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the two countries. It was agreed that the next Ministerial Steering Committee Meeting will be held in India in 2012, and every two years thereafter alternately in Korea and in India.

Finance Minsiter calls on General Secretary of Communist Party of Vietnam in Hanoi today

Union Finance Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee called on General Secretary of the Communist Part of Vietnam Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong today before embarking his return journey back to home. During this meeting, the Finance Minister said that India and Vietnam have a very old political and cultural relations dating back to the times of former Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and President Ho Chi Minh. This relationship was further nurtured during the time of Smt. Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India and Mr. Pham Van Dong former Prime Minister of Vietnam. The Finance Minister said that the strategic partnership between the two governments started in 2007 is a landmark in the development of our relations. It is based on mutual trust and convergence of interests including in the field of defence.

FM holds bilateral talks with Japanese Finance Minsiter

In a bilateral meeting with the Japanese Finance Minister at Hanoi, Vietnam today, the Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee expressed deep concern and sympathy over the recent natural calamities in Japan and extended all possible assistance. Shri Mukherjee said that India attach great priority to Strategic & Global Partnership with Japan and there is strong political consensus in India on the importance of advancing this partnership in all areas. He expressed confidence about continuity of India’s Japan policy despite changes in Japan’s government. He pointed out that in recent years, the bilateral relationship between the two countries have moved from strength to strength. Both the countries have a mutual stake in each other’s prosperity and progress, particularly during these times of economic crisis, added the Minister.

India, Pak to initiate steps for power, petroleum trade

Recognising that economic engagement will help build mutual trust, India and Pakistan on Thursday agreed to initiate steps for trade of electricity and petroleum products between them.Besides, Commerce Secretaries of the two countries agreed on a slew of measures to realise the full potential of bilateral trade which at present is less than $2 billion.
