World Environment Day is being observed today


Rallies, awareness programmes and seminars will mark the World Environment Day today. This year's theme is Forests: Nature At Your Service which highlights the critical role of forests in providing services essential to every aspect of life.

In Uttar Pradesh, school children took out rallies and seminars were held in various districts on the eve of World Environment Day. In Varanasi, several voluntary organizations formed Human Chain along the Ghats of the River Ganga to create awareness about its cleanliness. 

In Mathura, the Executive Director of Mathura Petroleum Refinery told reporters that an advanced Chimney stack is being erected to prevent Sulphur Dioxide Gas from dissolving into the environment. Apart from this a Palletiser Plant at a cost of 66 crore rupees is also being set up to convert Sulphur into solid form. Tree plantations in various districts will also be carried out today.
