85 per cent polling in 2nd phase assembly elections in West Bengal

In West Bengal, over 85 per cent voting was recorded for second phase of assembly elections in the state. The second phase of poll took place in 50 seats covering Murshidabad, Nadia and Beerbhom districts on Saturday. 

According to the state Election Department sources the voters turn out in Murshidabad and Nadia districts stood at 86 per cent while it was recorded in Beerbhom over 85 per cent. The polling was by and large peaceful. 91 Electronic Voting Machines were replaced at various polling booths for technical snag. Three Presiding Officers were removed from Murshidabad and Nadia districts for violation model code of conduct.

AIR Kolkata correspondent Arijit Chakraborty reports that campaigning for third phase of election has reached to its peak. The election in this phase will take place in 75 seats covering Kolkata, North and South 24 Pargana districts on Wednesday. Altogether 480 candidates are in the fray for this phase of polls.
